Kajol & Aamir Talk Fanaa ~Watch Online~
Interestingly enough, the conversation wasnââ¬â¢t just centered around Fanaa. Thereââ¬â¢s more than enough fodder in this one to feed gossip mongers for a long, long time. They start of the conversation with first impressions of each other. Aamir didnââ¬â¢t even hesitate for a fraction of a second to say that at their first meeting, he thought that Kajol was brash!
Kajol countered that by saying that she didnââ¬â¢t even have an impression of him. The only impression that she would have liked to make at that time was that of her fingernails on his neck! Under all that banter, one can easily sense the strong camaraderie between the two! It does take a great comfort level to tell someone that you didnââ¬â¢t like them at the first meeting, after all!

The two went on to discuss a whole lot of topics, under the sun. They chatted on everything from what makes them choose a film, to what they like and dislike about each other. In fact, this was the first time that Aamir even spoke about his broken marriage to Reena. He said that he still cherished the time he had spent with her. With time, he has learned not to be judgmental of others. For Kajol, her marriage helped her find and accept the grey areas in life.
The entire conversation ended on a light note, with them talking about each others positive and negative points. A rare interview, it was indeed refreshing to see that they didnââ¬â¢t just give diplomatic answers heard a zillion times, before. And now letââ¬â¢s hope that this off-screen chemistry translates just as perfectly onscreen, as well.
Following is snippet of the chat transcript.
Aamir: I know itââ¬â¢s a little late in the day but its Kajal or Kajol??
A:Kajol, I have been calling you Kajal throughout the (making of) film.
A:You havenââ¬â¢t corrected me.
K:I didnââ¬â¢t feel like correcting you at that point of time (laughs).
A:You know interestingly, when I heard the script for the first time, I simply loved the script and I said there is only one person I can see in the role of Zooni and that is Kajalââ¬Â¦. Kajol. (Kajol laughsââ¬Â¦.) and there is only one problem ââ¬â? if she is in the film I might not be in it.
K:(Laughs)ââ¬Â¦I donââ¬â¢t know whether to slap you or call and say thank you for the compliment.
A:And then I said if she even hears that I am in the film, she will say no!
K:You have such a high opinion of me!
A:I never thought actually we will get down to working together.
K:Yeahââ¬Â¦. I know what you meanââ¬Â¦. It seemed kind of impossible thenââ¬Â¦.
A:Because we are supposed to have completely different styles of acting or working.
K:I have to share something with you Aamirââ¬Â¦ I have to tell you a little trade secret I donââ¬â¢t know whether you know this as yet or notââ¬Â¦. but your FIRST (her emphasis) take is the best shot ever!
K:Yes it isââ¬Â¦ Kunal and me have already discussed this several timesââ¬Â¦. that your first take is usually your bestââ¬Â¦
A:Well I am glad to hear thatââ¬Â¦.Well but I donââ¬â¢t go for that many takes. What is your experience? I mean people tell stories that I take 50 takes and all thatââ¬Â¦ Is that what you think?? (looks at her meaningfullyââ¬Â¦)
K:Well (points towards the camera) we are on TV nowââ¬Â¦ (laughs)ââ¬Â¦. No, really, jokes apart, but I think for sure that you have chilled out. I think you are much more confident now, at least thatââ¬â¢s what I look at it asââ¬Â¦ (Aamir saysââ¬Â¦ ââ¬Årightââ¬Â¦ more relaxedââ¬Â?ââ¬Â¦) yeah you are more coolerââ¬Â¦ much cooler.
A:What was your first impression of me, thenââ¬Â¦. back then?
K:I didnââ¬â¢t have an impression, reallyââ¬Â¦. The only impression that I wanted to make was my finger marks on your neck at that point of timeââ¬Â¦ but beyond that I thought thatââ¬Â¦ I still do think that you are completely 300 per cent into your jobââ¬Â¦ and a little too into your jobââ¬Â¦ But thatââ¬â¢s okayââ¬Â¦ I like you besides thatââ¬Â¦ despite all thisââ¬Â¦ you are not such a bad guyââ¬Â¦ Now, what was your impression?
A:Wellââ¬Â¦ My impression of you wasââ¬Â¦ quite pathetic to begin withââ¬Â¦ (Kajol interruptsââ¬Â¦ ââ¬Åsounds familiarââ¬Â?ââ¬Â¦) yeahââ¬Â¦ I kind of felt that you were really brash and difficult to deal with.
K:(interrupts) You can say bratââ¬Â¦itââ¬â¢s okayââ¬Â¦
A:Brashââ¬Â¦ and thenââ¬Â¦ (a long pause) Actually after doing Fanaa it hasnââ¬â¢t changeââ¬Â¦ No it HASââ¬Â¦ it was a real pleasure to work with you I have to say. And I really enjoyed itââ¬Â¦ Itââ¬â¢s very few times (that) I can say that to an actorââ¬Â¦ You know that I had such a good time working with youââ¬Â¦
K:Thank you! Ditto and vice versaââ¬Â¦ I really thought I will kill you within the first schedule but, surprisingly, we both survivedââ¬Â¦ naââ¬Â¦
A:I think we both have grown older and are more maturedââ¬Â¦
K:Yeah, we have maturedââ¬Â¦
A:Tell me one thingââ¬Â¦ I wanted to ask youââ¬Â¦. We have not had this conversation actuallyââ¬Â¦ How do you select a film, to begin withââ¬Â¦?
K:First and foremost, it HAS to be a good script otherwise I wonââ¬â¢t do itââ¬Â¦ no matter what.
A:And then, once you select how do you approach the role or your character ââ¬â? how do you go about working on itââ¬Â¦???
K:Wait waitââ¬Â¦.. this is a question I think I wanted to ask you thisââ¬Â¦ I am more instinctive and you are more scientific about itââ¬Â¦. Logically thinkingââ¬Â¦ I am sure by now you must have all the steps worked out so please tell me exactly how that happensââ¬Â¦
A:Iââ¬â¢ll tell you but first you tell meââ¬Â¦ I asked you na?
K:I am telling youââ¬Â¦ I am instinctive. I do what I likeââ¬Â¦ I go by gut (feeling) if I like itââ¬Â¦. if I really really like it, if I think it will workââ¬Â¦ my gut says yes go for it. I go for itââ¬Â¦
A:But once you have said yes to the film and then there is, may be four to six months before we can start shooting itââ¬Â¦ do you think about the characterââ¬Â¦
K:Noââ¬Â¦Ã¢â¬Â¦Ã¢â¬Â¦ I donââ¬â¢t sit down and think about itââ¬Â¦. I do think sometimes. I think about ââ¬â? oh you know when we do this particular sceneââ¬Â¦ exactly what will I doââ¬Â¦ I should keep my body language like thisââ¬Â¦. once in a while, but I am not a conscious planner at allââ¬Â¦I go with the flowââ¬Â¦
A:I like to get into the head of the character and thatââ¬â¢s what I try to (do) and when I get that then everything else flows for meââ¬Â¦. (laughs) Sometimes, I donââ¬â¢t get the head right till the end of the shootingââ¬Â¦ I am still searching for the head.
K:How do you choose a film???
A:There are three things that are really important for meââ¬Â¦ the script, the director and producerââ¬Â¦ only then I do a film. I mean only then I say yes to a filmââ¬Â¦
K:No wonderââ¬Â¦. you have only done one film in FIVE yearsââ¬Â¦(laughs)ââ¬Â¦ also these rumours say that you sit on editing, get involved in post-productionââ¬Â¦ really get, like, into it completelyââ¬Â¦Ã¢â¬Â¦. Do you actually do that???
A:At timesââ¬Â¦ if I am invited by the director or the producer I doââ¬Â¦
K:Soââ¬Â¦ have you sat on Fanaa and cut my role?? ââ¬Â¦
A:Well NOââ¬Â¦ actually noââ¬Â¦
K:(Laughs)ââ¬Â¦Like everyone has been claiming you have cut my role or as it isââ¬Â¦
A:Kahan yaarââ¬Â¦but Kunal and Adi called me to see the film and they wanted my response. So I saw the film and then sat with them for about four to five days because when I saw the film there was not much that I had to commentââ¬Â¦ there were a few minor things, but I gave my input whatever I feltââ¬Â¦ what they liked they took, what they didnââ¬â¢t like they didnââ¬â¢tââ¬Â¦
K:I want to ask you something generallyââ¬Â¦ When Kunal told me that Aamir is doing the filmââ¬Â¦I thought to myself that when I meet Aamir, HE will be of a certain wayââ¬Â¦ be a certain kind of personââ¬Â¦ and you were ââ¬Â¦ I have to say that you came in with no expectationsââ¬Â¦ How did you do that??
When I saw you and when we worked and when we met and things like thatââ¬Â¦ the script reading and all thatââ¬Â¦ you were very warm. I mean I would like to say you are very openââ¬Â¦ didnââ¬â¢t you feel that you needed toââ¬Â¦ didnââ¬â¢t you feel that, ââ¬ËOh my God, I hated her when I saw herââ¬Â¦ when I was working with her, she is not really the nicest personââ¬Â¦ when I meet her now, what is it going to be likeââ¬Â¦Ã¢â¬â¢
A:I was apprehensive about thatââ¬Â¦ Besides we had not met for yearsââ¬Â¦ andââ¬Â¦
K:I know I wasââ¬Â¦ I was apprehensiveââ¬Â¦ I was thinking, ââ¬ËOH MY GODââ¬Â¦how is he going to be likeââ¬Â¦ whatââ¬â¢s the whole dealââ¬Â¦Ã¢â¬â¢ How will we deal together??ââ¬â¢ I mean I did think about itââ¬Â¦
A:Adi and Kunal were convinced that there will be fireworks and the film will stop mid way and allââ¬Â¦. but yeah I was apprehensiveââ¬Â¦ to be totally honestââ¬Â¦ I have always respected you as an actorââ¬Â¦.
I have always like your work tremendouslyââ¬Â¦So on a certain level I was really looking forward to do this film with you and I was just hoping that it went wellââ¬Â¦ So I was a ââ¬Â¦.creatively I was so sure that you were so right for the roleââ¬Â¦
