Madhuri Dixit-Nene and Anil Kapoor decide to bury the hatchet and grace a show after their Parinda director plays peacemaker
They had once scorched the screen with their sizzling chemistry. But Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit, Bollywood’s ‘dhak dhak’ pair had not been the best of friends over a year.
By refusing to play Sonam Kapoor’s mother in Anil’s desi version of Freaky Friday, Madhuri had reportedly angered her former costar. Recently, filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra decided to step in and sort out the problems. And Mumbai Mirror has learnt that all is well again between the two actors.
Now Chopra surely had vested interest in the patch up. The filmmaker, who completes thirty years in the industry, will be holding a first of its kind, retrospective of all his productions across various theatres in the subcontinent starting March 29. On March 30, for the screening of his 1989 blockbuster Parinda at PVR Juhu, Chopra needed his lead actors Anil and Madhuri to walk the red carpet.
The ‘trivial’ issue in questioned occurred when Anil offered Madhuri Jamie Lee Curtis’ role in his version of Freaky Friday. Anil had quite a few names in his mind for the role including Kirron Kher, Rekha and even Shabana Azmi. Sonam was to play the Lindsay Lohan’s character. Initially Madhuri had agreed but later had backed out citing date problems.
According to our source, this had annoyed Anil. “Since then they had stopped being in touch. They had worked in a lot of films including Beta, Khel, Parinda and even the more recent Lajja. Even after Madhuri shifted base to India, she had refrained from calling her friend up,” added the source.
However, one phone call from Vidhu Vinod Chopra seems to have worked wonders. The once superhit Bollywood jodi will once again walk the red carpet. This time, for one of their most successful films, Parinda on March 30.
