First Look of Ram Leela (2013)
The first poster has Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone posing atop a pile of rifles — he tattoed and shirtless; she in a traditional ghagra of a floor-sweeping length. The punchline says: “Goliyon Ki Raasleela, Ramleela”.
Ram Leela is being described as the Indian version of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. The film’s shooting began late last year and several important portions were canned in Gujarat. Ranveer plays a Gujarati lad and he even learnt a few cuss words in local lingo.
“I went to Gujarat, I did some research, picked up the Gujarati language. First thing I wanted to learn were the ‘gaalies’, which are very interesting,” Ranveer Singh said recently while talking about preparations for his role in Ram Leela.
Apparently, the idea of having Ranveer pose shirtless on the poster is of Sanjay Leela Bhansali. It happened while the actor was doing dress rehearsals for a song.
“We were shooting a song and was supposed to wear a traditional Gujarati kedia (outfit) and in passing, we were doing some trials and I was putting on kedias and taking them off and he (Bhansali) was like ‘You know what, your body is looking amazing. Now let’s just do this song shirtless’,” Ranveer revealed.
This is the first time the 27-year-old is pairing with Deepika Padukone with whom he’s been bonding rather well both on and off sets.
Ram Leela has screenplay, music and direction by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The film is slated to hit theatres on November 29. 2013.
