Salman Supports Vishwaroopam by organising a special screening of the film
The storm over Vishwaroopam may not have abated yet. But Kamal Haasan is overwhelmed by the support he has received from his well wishers in Mumbai. Foremost among them, is Salman Khan, who tweeted his endorsement of Kamal’s film and urged his followers to watch the film in defiance of the politically motivated controversy.
Salman did not stop at tweeting his support, he actually organised a special screening of the film at Ketnav Studio on Friday afternoon, proving that he is willing to walk the talk as well.
The screening started at around 3 pm with Salman and his father in attendance along with some of their industry friends and when it got over, they were greeted by Kamal Haasan, who was waiting outside to thank them.
What was even more surprising for him was Salman’s decision to screen the film at Ketnav. “I learnt he was keen to watch the film. But before I could make arrangements, he had already organised it with help from the distributors(Balaji). He was too fast for me!” laughs the Vishwaroop maker.
Sources say Salman had insisted on watching the film in private as he didn’t want to be prejudiced by the maker. And which is why he was accompanied only by his father Salim Khan at the studio. When we asked Kamal Haasan if he wanted to join Salman, he said, “h I decided not to disturb him!”
Meanwhile, Rekha, who was shooting for Indra Kumar’s film met Kamal Haasan on her way back home to express solidarity with his fight. The two then reached Ketnav to meet Salman and Salim. Apparently, Salman found nothing objectionable with the film. Said Kamal, “Salman loved the film and said there was nothing controversial about it. In fact,Vishwaroopam reminded him of Hollywood films, he said.”
But Salman also encouraged the embattled filmmaker to find a middle path by taking off portions of the film as demanded by the protestors. But much as he is grateful to Salman for his goodwill gesture, Kamal Hassan, who has been emboldened by the audience response to his film elsewhere in the country, remained fiercely protective about his baby. “Why should I tamper with my film?” he shot back.
