MNS won’t stop Chennai Express now

A compromise seems to have been reached between filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s Chennai Express and Marathi film over the screening issue

On Thursday morning, Rohit Shetty met Raj Thackeray and explained to him that they had not forced any exhibitor to pull any Marathi film to accommodate Chennai Express. It is also learnt that shows between Chennai Express and Marathi film Duniyadari will be split.

On Wednesday, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena had threatened that it will not allow screening of Chennai Express in single screen cinemas if Marathi film is pulled down for it.

Ameya Khoppkar, president of the cine wing of MNS had told TOI, “Marathi film Duniyadari is doing well at the box office so we will not allow exhibitors to replace it with Chennai Express. If they do, we will not allow the screening of the film.

Meanwhile single screen cinemas have already signed on with distributors of the film to screen Chennai Express. Vice president of cinema owners association Nitin Datar said, “Exhibitors are in a fix. The only alternative I can see is distribution of the shows between Marathi film and Chennai Express.”
