Ram Leela to submit for Oscars
The Indian adaptation of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet aka Ram Leela might be the next entrant in the prestigious Academy Awards. If sources are to be believed, the makers of the film are planning to submit the film for Oscars. The film stars rumored couple Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone.
An insider has revealed that the makers have decided to submit the films for the Oscars and hopefully it will get selected. The film is a love story set in violent times. Being the perfectionist that he is, Sanjay Leela Bhansali has made sure that every scene in the film looks totally out of the world. It is also for the first time that Ranveer and Deepika have been paired opposite each other.
Since 1957, India has submitted films for the Academy Award for the Best Foreign Language Film. India has submitted over forty films till now and most of the submissions were in Hindi. The first film that was submitted to the Oscars was Mother India which made to final shortlist and was nominated. The film was close to winning but lost to Nights of Cabiria by a single vote. The last that was sent was Ranbir Kapoor’s (also Deepika’s ex beau) Barfi! but failed to impress the jury and wasn’t shortlisted. So will Deepika win Ranbir by having her film selected?
