Shoojit Sircar plans to shoot with Big B in Kolkata
His Madras Cafe might be the talk of the town, but director ShoojitSircar is already planning his next — with AmitabhBachchan. With the superstar in mind, Shoojit has already started writing the script, which sets the narrative largely in Kolkata. If things go according to plans, this will be Big B’s first shoot in the city after RituparnoGhosh’s The Last Lear in 2007.
Shoojit, whose Shoebite with Big B is still stuck in the cans, is gung-ho about the new film. “It’s a brand new script, which is currently being written. I’m leaving with him to shoot a Gujarat tourism ad campaign in mid-September. Hopefully, the film — a drama — will be finalized around that time. Forty per cent of it will be shot in Kolkata and Mr Bachchan knows about it. If all goes well, we’ll start shooting early next year,” says the director.
Between Big B and Shoojit, it has also been a mutual admiration club. After the release of Vicky Donor, the senior actor had sent him a bouquet saying, ‘I loved, laughed and cried. Congratulations.’ The director had also planned a film earlier with Amitabh and JayaBachchan in mind.
Big B, on his part, shares an old association with Kolkata. He left his Rs 500 job in the city to pursue big dreams in Mumbai in the late ’60s. But Kolkata, for him, has always held a sense of deja vu. No wonder, he wanted to catch up with old pals and gorge on phuchkas after returning to shoot for The Last Lear.
Though the cast is not finalized yet, Shoojit wants to rope in MoushumiChatterjee for an important role. “I want to work with Moushumidi in this film,” he tells us.
Though it’s not known if the actress would be cast opposite Big B, if she does give her nod, it would bring back the pair after BasuChatterjee’s Manzil in 1979. Shoojit is not ready to divulge more at the moment, but sources say he has already sought police permission for the shoot in January
