I broke Ganpati’s hand when I gave Ganpati a high five: Ranbir Kapoor

Ranbir Kapoor is a pucca Kapoor when it comes to celebrating Ganpati. He joined the maha-aarti at the Lalbaugcha Raja Ganpati as a part of the Times Utsav Moorti Sanman contest on Wednesday night.

Right from the time his car landed there to the one hour that he spent there, he was mobbed. But not once did the charming superstar stop smiling or waving to his fans.

Despite the sweat and crowds, he was his charming best, both with the bhakts and his favourite deity Ganpati.

Speaking to us, he said, ‘Ganpati is like God who comes to our house and he brings in a lot of joy and you thank him for the year gone by. It’s like ‘Har mehmaan bhagwan ki tarah jota hai’. You celebrate his coming and his going. And you then miss him when he goes away and we say ‘Pudhchya varshi laukar ya’. In RK, we always keep it for 10 days and my grandfather used to celebrate it with a lot of pomp and passion and that is encouraged in our entire family. We celebrate it from the time I was born and we keep it for five days at our Bandra home.”

Talking about his childhood memory, Ranbir said, I was five when I gave Ganpati a high five and one of his hands broke and I remember my father was really upset and I thought my entire year would go bad as I had broken God’s hand, but thankfully, nothing like that happened as God had obviously forgiven me.’
