Movie Review: War Chhod Na Yaar (2013)
Indian Army Captain Raj (Sharman Joshi) and Pakistani Army Captain Qureshi (Jaaved Jaaferi) may be on the opposite sides of the barbed wire, but the two warriors share a cordial relationship, which is cemented through ‘antaksharis’ and card games late in the night.
However, things get tensed up when politicians on both sides of the border decide to incite war for personal gains. Now, it is upto Ruth Dutta (Soha Ali Khan), a TV reporter, who is on the Indian border to report about the potential war, to try and defuse the situation before there is any bloodshed. What happens next? Does Ruth manage to avert war? Watch the movie to find out…
War comedies or spoofs/satirical takes on the feud between two warring nations are a commonality in the West. In fact, it won’t be erroneous to state that the concept is well-liked and accepted there. In India, however, the anti-Pakistan sentiment on varied occasions has prompted film-makers to make films that make a scathing attack on the neighbour, besides reflecting patriotism and jingoism, to fuel the sentiment. WAR CHHOD NA YAAR is a war comedy, a first in its genre here.
