Movie Review: Mad About Dance (2014)
Directed by Saahil Prem, Mad About Dance is a Indian dance film that stars Saahil Prem and Amrit Maghera in the lead roles.Mad About Dance is a movie of three Asian boys, who leave their home and country and go to study abroad, their struggles, their heartbreaks, their trials and triumphs. Life changing experiences coupled with new responsibilities help push our ‘boys’ into the journey of manhood.
Essentially a dance film, it focuses on the youth, their dreams, anxieties, disappointments and hopes for their future. The film is based in the quaint and beautiful university town of Sheffield and brings to light the stories of Asian students who leave their home and country and go to study abroad…Their struggles, their heartbreaks, their trials and triumphs.
Saahil Prem, who is not just the director of the film, but also its lead actor and story writer, seems to have shot this film in a tearing hurry. Even though he makes a sincere attempt as an actor, he fails miserably as a director. Though the film has been shot in lavish foreign locales and has a blend of western and desi actors, the film fails to create an impact. In fact, choreographers Salah Benlemqawanssa and Supple Nam’s dance is thoroughly disappointing. It’s quite an irony to state that a film about dance has not explored the elements of the art form appropriately.
